Monitoring

One of the best and most economical ways to avoid costly and unexpected down time is to monitor the health and well being of your network and identify potential issues before they become a crisis. McMillan Consulting performs monitoring for our managed clients on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

Backup logs should be monitored daily and reviewed to determine if the backup job ran to completion, if the throughput is below expected levels, if there are any issues with the backup streams, if a tape job has rolled to a second tape, if the wrong tape in the rotation was used, or any of a number of problem conditions that warrant immediate attention.

McMillan Consulting monitors free space on all drive partitions, the Exchange store size, and checks to make sure the servers have the latest anti-virus patterns. Depending on the environment we check to see that anti-virus and critical updates are being pushed to workstations as well.

This monitoring allows us to anticipate and correct issues before they can negatively impact a network and result in down time or worse, require disaster recovery efforts be expended to bring a network back to life.
